Sister Study Recruitment Success in 2007

Dear Candidate,

Happy New Year! We hope the holiday season brought you peace, health and joy. We are very excited to have experienced great success in 2007 in getting closer to our Sisters goal. We are almost there, however, we continue to need help encouraging more African American, Latina, Asian, and Native American Sisters, and Sisters over 65, or who have worked in trades and industry, to join.

Some of the major activities that contributed to our success include:

Partnering with the Tom Joyner Morning Show, "Take A Loved One to the Dr Day" and BlackAmericaWeb ~

The First Lady of Puerto Rico publicly endorsing and participating in the Sister Study ~

Special endorsement by AARP for ads in their magazines ~

Appearing in current issue of Woman's Day magazine ~

Partner events such as: Race for the Cure, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Y-ME
Mother's Day Walk, etc ~

Ads appearing in: Ebony, Jet, Vanidades, Cosmo en Espaņol, and TV y Novelas

Continuing to promote stories to media (newspapers, radio, magazine and TV outlets)

Collaborations with state cancer registries.

Direct mail campaign to minority women in select states

Volunteer Spotlight:
We would like to highlight a participant who wrote about her participation in the Sister Study in a 'letter to the Editor' which was published in Better Homes and Gardens. Thus far, over 100 women have enrolled as a result of her note! This is the type of initiative that helps our efforts tremendously.

Please write such letters and emails to magazines, TV shows, your local newspapers and high profile individuals who may be willing to publicly endorse the Sister Study.

As always, you can also help by forwarding this email to other women, contact the study to order brochures to distribute and to request a paragraph for newsletter posting. This will be our last year of recruitment and "you" are one of our best "recruiters"!

Thank you again for your continued commitment and efforts for the Sister Study.
